The Japanese automaker’s new steel pipe is about to become the world’s biggest, and its maker hopes it will be a big hit.
The pipe will be unveiled on March 1 at the Tokyo Motor Show.
It will be about 4 meters (16 feet) long and will measure 7.5 meters (23 feet) in diameter.
It is made of two layers of steel and has a diameter of 2 meters (7 feet) and a weight of about 1.4 tons.
The steel pipe will replace the old steel pipe that was replaced with a plastic version.
Sumitomos chief executive officer Takeshi Kitagawa said the pipe’s size is not only due to the new material but also because of its ability to withstand extreme temperatures, and also because it will last longer.
“If we had used the old pipe, we could not use the new pipe, and that would be a disaster,” Kitagaw said.
“If we used the new steel, we can use it for a long time.”
