A majority of the country’s pipe suppliers are based in the United States, according to a report released Thursday by the National Pipe and Pipe Fitters Association.
The report found that the bulk of pipe suppliers were based in California, while the remaining sources were located in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Illinois.
New York, which has been at the forefront of pipe production and distribution, led the way with 78 percent of its pipe suppliers based in New Jersey.
California followed with a majority of its suppliers based there, followed by Texas, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Illinois and Maryland, the report said.
In comparison, just over half of the pipe suppliers surveyed by the pipe industry group said they were based outside the United State.
While the study did not specifically address the impact of China’s recent surge in demand for pipes, it noted that Chinese demand for U.S. pipes had increased more than 40 percent since 2015, largely because of the economic and political unrest that followed the July 7 earthquake and subsequent coronavirus pandemic.
Among the top five pipe suppliers in the country were pipe makers Bock, Eastman and American Pipe, which was recently acquired by Royal Dutch Shell.
